Primary Public Education

Kindergarten to 12th Grade

Ford’s Colony is served by the following public schools which are administered by the City of Williamsburg Board of Education jointly with James City County:

• D.J Montague Elementary School: Located with in walking distance of Ford’s Colony, D.J. Montague offers kindergarten through 5th grade.
• Toano Middle School: Toano Middle School offers 6th through 8th grade and is located 7 miles from Ford’s Colony.
• Lafayette High School: Located ½ mile from Ford’s Colony, Lafayette offers 9th through 12th grade. The mission of Lafayette High School is to educate its diverse student population and to provide its students with the tools to become knowledgeable, productive, and resourceful members of a global society.

The City of Williamsburg-James City County offers a pre-school in Norge (approximately 6 miles from Ford’s Colony) for handicapped children 2 to 5 years old.

The Williamsburg-James City County School System offers a wide variety of special classes for both physically and emotionally handicapped children of all ages. Special classes for gifted children are also available through the public school system.

Primary Private Education

Walsingham Academy: Established in 1947, and directed by the Sisters of Mercy in partnership with a lay Faculty, Walsingham Academy is committed to the education and development of the whole person through a caring curriculum, emphasizing responsible leadership in an increasingly complex world.

Walsingham offers pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Williamsburg Christian Academy: The vision of Williamsburg Christian Academy is to co-labor with parents and the Christian community to educate young adults to possess:

Hampton Roads Academy: Hampton Roads Academy prepares students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade intellectually, artistically, physically and morally for higher education and for life within an inclusive community of service, compassion and excellence. Hampton Roads Academy is an independent, nonprofit, college-preparatory day school.
