An original play with music, Freedom Bound tells the story of the most important incident in the history of the Underground Railroad in Ohio. This is the story of Addison White, a slave who escaped from Kentucky and ended up in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. There he was befriended by a farmer named Udney Hide. Addison worked for his meals by day and learned to read and write by night with the help of Hyde's daughter, Amanda. It was not too long before Addison was discovered by his former master and Federal Marshall's came to arrest him and return him to slavery. But, more than 100 citizens confronted the Marshalls and demanded they set Addison free.

In this wonderful production, Mad River Theatre Works creates characters that literally emerge from the past to bring the Underground Railroad to life, right before your eyes.
